Adults Only rated games not permitted for streaming on Twitch

May 28, 2015
In a post on the Twitch blog the streaming company has announced changes of their Rules of Conduct regarding Adult Only games. According to the new rules, users are not allowed to stream games which are rated by ESRB as Adults Only in the United States.

"Previously, we made game-specific decisions about which games would and would not be available for broadcast – sometimes due to overtly sexual content, sometimes due to gratuitous violence," states in Twitch's announcement.

"This is unsustainable and unclear, generating only further confusion among Twitch broadcasters. We would like to make this policy as transparent as possible."

Twitch used GTA: San Andreas as an example of what is and what isn't allowed:

"If a game’s US version is rated Adults Only by the ESRB, you should not broadcast that game on Twitch. However, ESRB rated Mature versions of Adults Only titles are permitted for streaming, such as Mature versions of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy."

In short, check out ESRB's list of AO rated titles if you're unsure of what's OK for streaming. If the game is rated as 18+ by other rating agencies, but not by ESRB, it should be allowed. Read the complete post by Twitch for the full details.
