Google Buys Twitch for $1 Billion

July 25, 2014 8

It appears that Google has finalized the deal to buy Twitch. While there's been talk about the acquisition for some time, now VentureBeat's sources confirm that the two companies have signed the deal, with Google paying $1 billion for the livestreaming website.

Currently, neither Twitch or Google have commented on the matter, but Twitch's investors are reportedly very happy with the deal.

According to VentureBeat, Twitch will become a part of Google's YouTube division, adding its strong gaming community to the already huge YouTube gaming section. The $1 billion price tag clearly confirms the worth and importance of game streaming these days, both as an entertainment medium and as a marketing business.
