When Turtle Rock presented their plans for Evolve DLC a couple of months ago, gamers naturally became concerned it would cause a rift between those that would own the DLC maps and those with the vanilla game only. It appears that the developers took those concerns seriously as they've announced plans to give out all post-release maps free of charge to base game owners.
"We can’t break the community up, so all of our maps will be free. We never want anyone to get booted off of a server because they haven’t bought something", said Turtle Rock's Creative Director Phil Robb in a talk with IGN.
However, this doesn't mean that all DLC packs will be free. Additional monsters and hunters will cost money to get, but will still be able to play together with players who don't own them.
"We'll have characters and monsters, and even if you don't buy them, if your buddy wants to buy the DLC, that's cool, and your game will be enhanced through his purchase. So, you won't be able to play as those characters, but you will certainly be able to play with those characters
," explained Robb.
Evolve launches on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on February 10, 2015.
