@xXDanteXx ok, thakns but... we all know that DotA2 is in a beta right now... i still don't get why a retail version means that it would be f2p :(

  • xXDanteXx

    xXDanteXx, 03/27/2012

well it basicaly means that if someone actually activated a retail version on steam, without any purchase beforehand, they got it for free from Valve themselves so it could indicate that the game will be free for all like LoL and HoN. But this could also be some mistake during activation some bug on Steam so i guess we will have to wait for official statament on the matter, everything else is just speculation hence the question mark in the title :)

    holy nooo!!!!
Please dota cant be free to play, valve will do a big mistake if dota2 launches as free to play.
    Pay to play

@xXDanteXx HoN went free to play after about a year and i must say ive seen alot less flaming than in lol there...
Ive got mixed feelings about the free to play
It would attract alot more players, sure, but also alot more trash among these players (see lol public games...just ridicoulous with everybody reporting everyone just for being "bad" and hoping they get banned"

This is not good. There will be a lot of trolls. And probably, most heroes will be avaliable only if you buy them.

  • Ashikabi

    Ashikabi, 03/27/2012

They can't be serious, they must keep it pay to play. All those god damn kids flooding the game makes me sick already. So stupid, I hope they change their minds.

  • Kingoffools

    Kingoffools, 03/27/2012

@Ashikabi what is "keep" supposed to mean?its a beta atm,and they never said anything about how it will be published

Well i do see the down side of free to play games but than again many games out there started as pay to play than switched to free to play so i guess their general opinnion is to keep game free and profit via microtransactions... Than again this info is not confirmed so the game most likely (imo) will be pay to play.

Most of them said that Dota 2 will be F2P so i think that's what will get. Altough you guys say that LoL has some crazy flaming going on, when i played last time (that was 2-3 days ago) everything was perfect and we had a great time. I think that it depends on what people the game groups you with.

In my oppinion Dota 2 needs to be free and Valve might very well get benefits from microtransactions.

    Cheers!

Well it was obvious that it will be f2p, it has an ingame shop much like the one in Team Fortress 2 (cosmetic stuff mostly)

No way they make it free, lol if they make it free they will loose at least 200.000.000$

  • Capzoots, 03/27/2012

It is free to play, I am in the beta for both this and counter strike.  When i go to the steam page for Dota it says I already own the game. When I go to the store page for CS:GO it shows that I do not own the game yet.  This pretty much confirmed it for me.

  • Capzoots, 03/27/2012

Also the fact that since TF2 went free to play they have made 11 times more money then when it was pay to play. Bring on the hats!

  • caustrelix

    caustrelix, 03/28/2012

It means that DOTA 2 is Pay To Play. Read the article carefully. It say's retail mean you must purchase the game and its not free to play.

  • smileee

    smileee, 03/28/2012

The shop in-game means nothing atm, obviously it's a clue for something, but i don't think VALVe make cosmetic items that have 0 relevance in the gameplay... i mean, why i would buy a hat that make my hero "cooler" if it don't help me?

PS: Thx xXDanteXx for the information :)
