The legal battle between Bethesda and Minecraft developer Mojang has taken a good turn for the Swedish developers, as the court granted them the right to use the Scrolls name in today's verdict.

The guys behind Minecraft, Swedish indie developers Mojang, have won the first round in their legal case against Bethesda.

The dispute began with Bethesda's claim that Mojang's upcoming game Scrolls infringes on their long standing The Elder Scrolls trademark.

Today, the Swedish court has ruled in favour of Mojang, allowing them to continue to use the name Scrolls, reported Markus "notch" Persson.

"We won the interim injunction," he tweeted. "We can keep using the name "Scrolls". ZeniMax/Bethesda can still appeal the ruling, but I'm very happy."

Mojang's business guy Daniel Kaplan has released some additional info on the verdict. Overall, the court stated that "there is a certain degree of similarity" between the two games, but the word Scrolls is "considered to be common and therefore less distinctive and as a consequence less important."

More importantly, they decided that "there are significant differences between the games in The Elder Scrolls series and the game Scrolls, and that channels of distribution will be different."

Bethesda now has three weeks to appeal to the verdict, meaning this doesn't mark the end of the whole ordeal.

The fact that anyone is taking this seriously is rediculous, the only reason Bethesda is doing it is because they saw what waiting with Masthead did, and they don't want to make the same mistake.
