ESWC 2011 adds StarCraft 2 and WarCraft 3
ESWC 2011 will take place in France from October 21st-25th and will feature $220,000 in cash prizes.
The Electronic Sports World Cup (ESWC) has announced its two RTS game titles, and expectedly, StarCraft 2 is in, alongside the mainstay WarCraft 3. In the past months, the committee for the French-headquartered e-sports tournament had already revealed its FPS and Sports/Racing game selections for the 2011 edition. With WarCraft 3 and StarCraft 2 added, the game list for the upcoming ESWC 2011 looks like this:
- StarCraft 2
- WarCraft 3: The Frozen Throne
- Counter-Strike 1.6
- Counter-Strike 1.6 Female
- Counter-Strike: Source
- FIFA 11
- Trackmania Nations Forever
This will be the debut of StarCraft 2 in one of the most prestigious international open tournaments in electronic sports. WarCraft 3 (both the original and the expansion) has been a major part of the ESWC since its inception in 2003. It's the only game title that has been played at every ESWC event, including both the Masters of Athens and Cheonan. Counter-Strike 1.6 has made an appearance at all except the Masters of Athens.
