@sopax MMO implies that the game would be multiplayer and you would be on a large server with many other people. Half-Life 3 would never be that. Also, "Every MMO with that has this drawback", assuming by MMO you mean open world, you might want to try playing Zelda, Metroid Prime and Dark Souls and then tell me that a game has that flaw just because it's open world.
@cob It says "RPG elements" not straight up RPG, possibly ending up like Saints row 3, Deus Ex: HR, or the Darkness II in terms of character progression.
Why people are taking a rumor this far is beyond me

Half-Life3.com website received an update on July 12th which leads us to a conclusion we can expect to see an official announcement really soon.

first, the items doesn't mater, neither does the buildings in games (and all engie's toys have 3 levels)
valve can't count to 3 speaking abbout games: left 4 dead, left 4 dead 2; team fortress classic, team fortress 2; half-life, half-life 2, half-life 2: ep 1, half-life 2: ep 2, counter-strike 1.6, counter-strike: source, counter-strike: go
those are just some examples, you won't see "inserta game name here" 3 at valve too soon :))

Half-Life 2 : Episode 3 would be nice and I think it's needed to wrap up the current story before moving on to a new game.

@dejavu Counter Strike : Global Offensive is currently in a mix of closed/open beta state. Isn't it more than enough? I really hope VALVe doesn't update the current source engine, and instead releases a newer iteration of said engine (example: CS:S, HL2 based source engine from 2004, doesn't run @ 150fps all the time for me and it should...), if they go ahead and release HL3, they shouldn't upgrade the source engine IMO, instead make a newer one.
