CD Projekt Punishing Illegal Downloaders
Developer spotlightBy Gamersbook on Nov 2320125
The Witcher 2 publisher, CD Projekt, is hoping to protect their game from illegal downloading by threatening potential pirates with legal action.
Recently, CD Projekt announced that The Witcher 2 will be released through retail, Steam, and their own GOG.com digital store, where it will be available completely DRM-free, thereby making it an easy target for pirates.
All
those who illegally download The Witcher 2 via torrents should know
that they could very easily face fines. Marcin Iwiński, CD Projekt
co-founder, spoke on the subject: "Of course we're not happy when
people are pirating our games, so we are signing with legal firms and
torrent sneaking companies," he explained. "In quite a few big
countries, when people are downloading it illegally they can expect a
letter from a legal firm saying, ‘Hey, you downloaded it illegally and
right now you have to pay a fine.’"
While
most game publishers fight piracy by legal action against torrent sites
or other data hosts and through heavy use of DRM, the method of going
after the end-users directly has mostly been reserved for the music and
movie industries.

This game will be so cool, so i really dont see why anyone would download the pirate version, especially after they said that with alot of DLC they will try to keep it alive for long run

Well Development of the game takes few years to be done. If you like the game, i don't see any reason why you wouldn't buy it. Some people can't afford game, but some people can't afford car too. Does it make them steal the car at all ?
