Transparency SuperSamping to be fully enabled in the newest EA DICE's Game?
It seems that Battlefield 3 will be one of the first game that will fully support and include Transparency SuperSampling Anti-Aliasing known as TSAA within the game. Most of the games today are using MSAA known as MultiSampling which is an non-transparency solution while TSAA is an transparency solution which renders the whole frame with anti-aliasing.
Following pictures are courtesy of the Overclock website and are added to show you performance graph and the difference between MSAA and TSAA
Easiest way to explain this to a gamer is to put him in a situation where he can see objects such as grass, trees or bushes in-game. If he has MSAA turned on, objects such as grass, trees and bushes won't get anti-aliased while with TSAA turned on, all of them together with the rest of scene is getting anti-aliased. Normally, this will leave a huge performance impact on your PC so in case you want to enjoy Battlefield 3 in full Anti-aliasing experience, prepare yourself to buy 2x high-end GPU's.
