Ten Years Ago IceFrog Took Over Dota

March 05, 2015 4
A few days ago an important anniversary for Dota and Dota 2 went by almost unnoticed. Aside from the good folks on reddit, most people failed to remember that ten years ago, on February 28th 2005, the development of DotA passed from Guinsoo to IceFrog and Neichus, who is now largely forgotten. Back in those day, DotA was just a Warcarft 3 custom map, a far cry from the e-sport behemoth Dota 2 is today.

IceFrog picked up development from version 6.01 and continues to work on the game today, although in the form of Dota 2. In those ten years he somehow managed to keep his identity secret from the community, with wild theories about him popping up every once in a while. Even his employment by Valve in 2009 didn't manage to bring him out in the open. So, cheers IceFrog: here's to another 10 good years of Dota!
